Description

Château Prieuré-Lichine is a Fourth Growth of the 1855 Classification in the Margaux appellation, its name recalling the Benedictine priory that once owned the land and Alexis Lichine, the influential wine writer who purchased it in 1951. Its vineyards are spread across many parcels in Margaux's various communes, giving a broad range of gravel terroirs. The 2010, from one of Bordeaux's great modern vintages, is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with some Petit Verdot, now showing the benefits of bottle age.

Tasting Notes: Nose: Blackcurrant, dark cherry, violet, cedar and developing notes of leather and tobacco. Palate: Medium- to full-bodied, with concentrated dark fruit, earthy complexity and firm but softening tannins. Finish: Long and savory, with cassis, spice and forest-floor notes.

Decant for an hour to allow sediment to settle and serve at 62-65°F. Pair with roast lamb, venison or aged cheeses.
