Description

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars was founded in 1970 by Warren Winiarski in Napa Valley's Stags Leap District, and its 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon took first place among the reds at the 1976 Judgment of Paris, the blind tasting that put California wine on the world stage. S.L.V. (Stag's Leap Vineyard) is the estate's original vineyard, planted by Winiarski on volcanic soils at the base of the Stags Leap palisades, and it remains one of the winery's two flagship estate Cabernets. This magnum format ages slowly and gracefully, making it a favorite of collectors.

Tasting Notes: Nose: black cherry, cassis and plum with violets, graphite, tobacco leaf and cedar. Palate: deep yet elegant, with layered dark fruit, cocoa and savory herbs, firm velvety tannins and lively acidity. Finish: long, refined and mineral-tinged.

Decant well and serve with dry-aged steak, rack of lamb, roasted game or hard aged cheeses.
