Description

Cantine San Marzano was founded in 1962 by a group of growers in San Marzano di San Giuseppe, in Puglia's Salento peninsula, and has become one of the leading names in Primitivo. Sessantanni, meaning "sixty years," is made from Primitivo vines more than 60 years old, low-yielding bush vines that give small, concentrated berries. Aged in French and American oak, it is the winery's best-known and most decorated wine.

Tasting Notes: Nose: plum, cherry jam, dried fig, vanilla, cocoa and sweet tobacco. Palate: full-bodied, rich and velvety, with ripe dark fruit, chocolate, spice and soft, round tannins. Finish: long and warm, with lingering mocha and licorice.

Serve with barbecue ribs, grilled ribeye, lasagna, game or aged cheeses.
