Description

Chateau St. Jean was founded in 1973 in Kenwood, in the Sonoma Valley, and its Cinq Cépages has been the winery's flagship red since its first vintage in 1990. As the name suggests, it blends all five classic Bordeaux varieties — Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot — drawn from top vineyards across Sonoma County. The 1996 vintage was named Wine of the Year by Wine Spectator, cementing its reputation as one of Sonoma's benchmark Bordeaux-style blends.

Tasting Notes: Nose: Blackcurrant, black cherry, plum, cedar, sage and cocoa. Palate: Full-bodied and layered, with concentrated dark fruit, espresso, sweet spice and polished tannins. Finish: Long and complex, with cassis, dark chocolate and toasted oak.

Decant for an hour and serve at 62-65°F. Ideal with prime rib, lamb shoulder or wild mushroom risotto.
