Description

Mastroberardino, based in Atripalda in the province of Avellino, is the historic family house of Campania wine, with roots going back to the 1700s and ten generations of winemaking. The family's Taurasi helped put southern Italian red wine on the world stage, and Taurasi became the first DOCG of southern Italy. Naturalis Historia, named after Pliny the Elder's ancient encyclopedia, is one of the estate's top Aglianico selections, from carefully chosen vineyards in Irpinia and given long aging in oak and bottle before release.

Tasting Notes: Nose: Black cherry, plum, tobacco, leather, licorice and sweet spice. Palate: Full-bodied and powerful, with concentrated dark fruit, cocoa and earthy, smoky notes framed by firm, fine tannins and fresh acidity. Finish: Very long, with lingering dark fruit, spice and mineral.

Decant before serving and pair with braised beef, wild boar, roasted lamb or aged cheeses; capable of further aging in the cellar.
