Description

Heitz Cellar was founded in 1961 by Joe and Alice Heitz in St. Helena and became one of the pioneering wineries of modern Napa Valley, famed for helping establish the tradition of vineyard-designated Cabernet Sauvignon in California. Trailside Vineyard lies along the Silverado Trail within the Rutherford appellation, whose gravelly benchland soils give Cabernet its famous dusty, cocoa-tinged character. This bottling carries the Rutherford appellation on its label and is presented in an original wooden case.

Tasting Notes: Nose: Blackberry, black cherry, cassis and cedar with cocoa, sage and the classic Rutherford dust. Palate: Full-bodied and polished, with layered dark fruit, baking spice, tobacco leaf and firm, ripe tannins balanced by fresh acidity. Finish: Long and savory, with dark berry, espresso and mineral notes.

Decant for an hour and pair with dry-aged steak, braised beef or wild mushroom dishes; built for further cellaring.
