Description

Heitz Cellar was founded in 1961 by Joe and Alice Heitz in St. Helena and became one of the pioneering wineries of modern Napa Valley, famed for helping establish the tradition of vineyard-designated Cabernet Sauvignon in California. Trailside Vineyard lies in Rutherford along the Silverado Trail, on the eastern side of the valley, and produces a Cabernet of dark fruit, firm structure and the dusty earthiness Rutherford is known for. This 1999 vintage is a library release held back at the winery and presented in an original wooden case, offering a chance to taste fully mature Napa Cabernet.

Tasting Notes: Nose: Dried black cherry, cassis, cedar, tobacco and leather with notes of forest floor and dried herbs. Palate: Mellow and complex, with resolved, silky tannins, dark plum, earth, cigar box and sweet spice. Finish: Long and savory, with dried fruit, spice and the classic Rutherford dusty character.

Stand the bottle upright a day before opening and decant gently off any sediment; serve with roast beef, beef Wellington, mushroom dishes or aged Parmigiano.
