Description

Heitz Cellar was founded in 1961 by Joe and Alice Heitz in St. Helena and became one of the pioneering wineries of modern Napa Valley, famed for helping establish the tradition of vineyard-designated Cabernet Sauvignon in California. Trailside Vineyard lies in Rutherford along the Silverado Trail, on the eastern side of the valley, and yields a Cabernet of dark fruit, firm structure and the dusty earthiness Rutherford is known for. This magnum is presented in an original wooden case, ideal for long-term cellaring.

Tasting Notes: Nose: Black cherry, blackberry, cedar and sage with cocoa and dusty earth. Palate: Full-bodied and structured, with cassis, plum, baking spice and savory herbs supported by firm, fine-grained tannins. Finish: Long and focused, with dark fruit, tobacco leaf and mineral notes.

Decant well ahead and serve with a standing rib roast, leg of lamb or a holiday dinner; the large format ages slowly and gracefully.
