Description

Heitz Cellar was founded in 1961 by Joe and Alice Heitz in St. Helena, and its Martha's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, first bottled as a vineyard-designated wine with the 1966 vintage, became one of the most iconic wines in California history. The vineyard lies in Oakville on the western side of Napa Valley at the foot of the Mayacamas Mountains, and its wines are celebrated for their signature notes of mint and eucalyptus alongside deep, age-worthy fruit. This bottling is presented in an original wooden case.

Tasting Notes: Nose: Black cherry, cassis and plum with the vineyard's hallmark mint, eucalyptus and bay leaf, plus cedar and cigar box. Palate: Full-bodied yet elegant, with layered dark fruit, sweet spice, cocoa and savory herbs framed by fine, firm tannins. Finish: Exceptionally long, with lingering mint, dark berry and graphite.

Decant for an hour and serve with a grilled ribeye, herb-crusted rack of lamb or aged cheeses; a collector's wine that can age for decades.
