Description

Château Musar was founded in 1930 by Gaston Hochar in Ghazir, Lebanon, and became internationally celebrated under his son Serge Hochar; the family continues to run it today. The estate's vineyards lie high in the Bekaa Valley, farmed with minimal intervention, and its wines are famously released only after extended aging. The flagship Château Musar Red is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan, fermented in concrete, aged in French oak and then in bottle before release, creating a wine of singular, evolving character. The 2001 vintage is a fully mature example of this legendary wine.

Tasting Notes: Nose: Dried cherry, fig, leather, sandalwood and exotic spice with savory, earthy complexity. Palate: Medium-bodied and silky, with dried red fruit, tobacco and gentle acidity over resolved tannins. Finish: Long and complex with spice and earthy notes.

Decant carefully off sediment; serve with roast lamb, game birds, mushroom dishes or Middle Eastern cuisine.
