Description

Château Coutet is a Premier Cru (First Growth) of Sauternes and Barsac in the 1855 Classification, and one of the oldest estates in the appellation, with a 13th-century tower still standing on the property. Owned by the Baly family since 1977, Coutet farms limestone and clay soils in Barsac, where autumn mists from the Ciron river encourage botrytis (noble rot). The wine is made primarily from Semillon with Sauvignon Blanc and a little Muscadelle, fermented and aged in oak, and is known for its freshness and finesse among sweet Bordeaux.

Tasting Notes: Nose: Apricot, candied orange peel, honeysuckle and pineapple with notes of vanilla and saffron. Palate: Luscious yet lively, with honeyed stone fruit, citrus marmalade and a bright, cleansing acidity. Finish: Long and elegant, with lingering honey and citrus zest.

Serve well chilled with foie gras, blue cheeses such as Roquefort, or fruit tarts and crème brûlée.

Barsac, Bordeaux · Semillon-based sweet white wine
