Description

Château Cheval Blanc is one of the most celebrated estates in Bordeaux, sitting on the gravel-and-clay plateau of Saint-Émilion right at the Pomerol border, and has been co-owned by Bernard Arnault and the late Baron Albert Frère since 1998. Its grand vin is distinguished by an unusually high proportion of Cabernet Franc blended with Merlot, giving a rare combination of perfume, freshness and longevity. The 2011 is a classically proportioned vintage of the estate, now entering a lovely window of maturity.

Tasting Notes: Nose: Black cherry, raspberry, violets and graphite with notes of cedar, tobacco and sweet spice. Palate: Medium- to full-bodied with polished tannins, red and dark berry fruit, mineral freshness and savory hints of leather and forest floor. Finish: Long, elegant and fragrant, with lingering spice and fine-grained tannin.

Decant for an hour and serve with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast or mushroom and truffle dishes.
