Michter's 20 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon is one of the most coveted names in American whiskey, and the 2022 release holds a special place in its history. It was the last bottling before Michter's skipped 2023 entirely rather than release barrels that didn't meet its standards. That makes the 2022 edition an important piece for any serious collection.
Michter's watches its barrels especially closely once they pass 17 years. It calls the 17-to-20-year window the "Fork in the Road Point," when select barrels reach an extraordinary level of quality. Master Distiller Dan McKee and Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson approved the barrels chosen for this release after extensive review of the inventory. The result is a bold 114.2 proof bourbon with remarkable depth and complexity, and it isn't overly woody even after two decades in new charred oak.
