Description

Weingut Salwey is a family estate in Oberrotweil in the Kaiserstuhl area of Baden, Germany's sunniest wine region, and a member of the VDP association of top German wine estates. Its GG (Grosses Gewächs) wines are dry bottlings from the VDP's highest-classified vineyard sites. This Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder) comes from the Henkenberg, a top site near Oberrotweil on volcanic soils, and is aged in oak barrels.

Tasting Notes: Nose: Dark cherry, wild strawberry, forest floor, smoke and sweet spice. Palate: Dry and medium-bodied, with layered red and dark fruit, savory minerality and fine, silky tannins. Finish: Long, refined and complex.

Pair with roast duck, venison, beef bourguignon or wild mushroom risotto; it will reward a few more years in the cellar.
