Description

Prunotto traces its roots to a winemaking cooperative founded in Alba in 1904, which Alfredo Prunotto took over in the 1920s and built into one of Piedmont's pioneering estates; since the 1990s it has been owned by the Antinori family. Bussia in Monforte d'Alba is one of Barolo's most celebrated crus and the estate's signature vineyard, and Vigna Colonnello is a special parcel within it, bottled as a Riserva only in exceptional vintages after extended aging. It is presented in a wooden case.

Tasting Notes: Nose: Dark cherry, dried rose, violet and orange peel with layers of tar, leather, licorice, tobacco and sweet spice. Palate: Full-bodied and powerful yet refined, with concentrated red and dark fruit, earthy and mineral depth and firm, polished tannins. Finish: Very long and complex, with lingering spice, dried fruit and floral notes.

Decant well in advance and pair with braised beef, roast game, white truffle dishes or aged cheeses; built for long cellaring.
