The Van Winkle Legacy
The Van Winkle family’s whiskey tradition began in the late 1800s when Julian “Pappy” Van Winkle Sr. entered the Kentucky bourbon business. He later became a leading figure behind the legendary Stitzel-Weller Distillery, which opened in Louisville on Derby Day in 1935.
Pappy believed that exceptional whiskey required patience and should never be rushed. That philosophy continues today through the Van Winkle family’s partnership with Buffalo Trace Distillery, where the family’s whiskeys are produced, matured and selected according to exacting standards.
Released in extremely limited quantities, Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye 13 Year Old is one of the oldest regularly released American rye whiskeys and among the most difficult Van Winkle expressions to acquire.
